ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2014 - GIS: _ As the Government observes its first year in office following its February 2013 victory at the polls, Health Minister and Social Security - Dr. Clarice Modeste-Curwen has been leading her team of senior managers on a tour of health facilities with patients and staff of various health districts.

The tour dubbed "Healthcare and You" the face to face straight talk edition began on February 18 with visits to the Happy Hill, St. George’s and Grand Anse health facilities; and on Thursday to the health facility at Gouyave, Victoria and Sauteurs.

During Thursday’s visits Minister Modeste-Curwen was accompanied by Hon. Alvin DaBreo the Parliamentary Representative for St. John and Hon. Anthony Boatswain the St. Patrick’s West MP.

The Ministers and senior health officials are using the opportunity to interact with the staff and patients as well as to assess the delivery of services and better understand the day to day operation of the facilities.

As part of the exercise staff and patients are given the opportunity to air their concerns, identify challenges, make recommendations in relation to services, the working environment and how best the overall delivery of care can be improved.

While at the Victoria Medical station a female resident who came for attendance openly commended the staff for their excellent services. According to a Bonair St. Mark resident the services she receives at the facility are provided by a team of caring professionals.

In St. Patrick’s a male resident called for security and protection of the healthcare providers especially at nights. The resident who works nearby told the visiting delegation that the healthcare providers must feel secure and comfortable if they are to provide the kind of services required especially at nights and on weekends.

However from all indications there has been a significant improvement in the delivery of healthcare services, and Ministers as well as the Ministry of Health’s senior management team are generally satisfied with the progress made thus far while at the same time recognizing the need for improvement.

Dr. Modeste Curwen has also gone on record commending the staff for their dedicated services over the years to the people of Grenada and has pledged to support her staff.

The touring party includes Permanent Secretary - Aaron Francois, Policy Advisor Mrs. Ann David-Antoine, acting CMO Dr. Alistair Antoine, Chief Community Health Nurse Debbie Francis, Senior Planning Officer Myrna Hagley and Director of Primary Health Care Dr. Francis Martin and the GIS.
