ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, SEPTEMBER 21, 2019 - GIS:  It is with a very heavy heart that, our Minister for Health, Permanent Secretary, Management and Staff of Ministry of Health and in particular the staff of the Oncology Department General Hospital mourn the death of Dr Barrymore McBarnette.

Dr McBarnette passed on Thursday night in the United States of America, where he was receiving medical treatment. For over forty years, Dr McBarnette worked in the healthcare services sector, touching the lives of countless patients and families especially in the area of Oncology (cancer).

In the medical fraternity he was affectionately called “Barry”. As a House Officer at the General Hospital he dedicated much of his time to his patients ensuring that they received their much needed treatment on time, every time.

Being head of the hospital’s oncology department, his dedication to his professional calling was unmatched, and demonstrated his love for his patients by returning to care for them, even after his retirement.

In reacting to the sad news on Friday morning, Health Minister, the Hon. Nickolas Steele, in his tribute to Dr McBarnette said, “Barry will be missed. He was highly respected by his peers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Hyacinth Rozelle and Karnani and the rest of the family. His legacy will live on”.

The Ministry of Health, Social Security and International Business extends its sympathy to his family, relatives, friends, colleagues and his patients whose lives he has touched so deeply. It is our hope that our prayers will guide his soul to our Heavenly Father.

Please accept our most sincere condolences.
